Crossing Paths at artefact festival, Leuven

Crossing Paths Photo: plan b

The Artefact Festival at Stuk in Belgium opened on 14 February where we are showing our latest collaborative GPS portrait, Crossing Paths.

We asked the people of Leuven to borrow a specially-designed GPS (courtesy of local company Septentrio) and do a normal daily journey. Some of them then came in to meet other passers-by and talk about the sections of their lives which made the lines in the animation. These interviews will accompany the installation, made on bespoke software by Peter Vasil.

The Artefact Festival runs until 23 February.

The Crossing Paths performance is on 17 February at 20:30. Entrance free but register for seats as it might fill up.

solo exhibition at art laboratory berlin

plan b GPS data engraved on perspex

Our first solo exhibition is currently open at Art Laboratory Berlin and we're very excited to be showing Narrating Our Lines for the first time in its proper two-channel, full-length version at last as well as showing the results of our mood reporting (1741 record cards). We've also had all of our GPS traces for 2011 engraved into acrylic by ShortCut here in Berlin, something we've been meaning to do ever since Julien Maire first did us a test (pictured) and its amazing to see how far a reiterated street goes into the material. There's also a chance to hear Dan's Satellite Sonification piece, the result of his foray into programming. More information daily datahere.

Exhibition opens 27 January at Art Laborartory Berlin, a non-profit gallery run by Chris de Lutz and Regine Rapp. It runs then until 11 March. See gallery site for opening times.

Mobility Project Coventry

We had a wonderful time in Coventry and Birmingham recently, thanks to our host, the Meter Room director Daniel Pryde-Jarman, Elly Clarke and the Arts Council England who funded the Mobility Project's sojourn in Coventry. As well as  re-drawing all of our 2011 journeys in the UK, we produced two lists of which cities we visited in the five years 2007 - 2011 in order of the amount of GPS data recorded in each one.

The panel discussion on 21 January allowed all the artists present to give some more insight into the work as well as hearing from Elly herself, Janneke Adema and curator-in-action Alfredo Cramerotti about artistic and curatorial perspectives surrounding the exhibition.

Exhibition runs from 19 January - 19 February. There are also limited edition prints for sale by each artist in the exhibition. Check the gallery site for opening times and location.

Season's Greetings

At the beginning of this year, we were remarking to each other that we'd like to take part in more exhibitions. In 2011 we took part in five of them, among them the Mobility Project which we will be participating in again when it tours to the Meter Room in Coventry in January as well as the more recent Tracing Mobility at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. We are looking forward with great excitement to our first solo show at Art Laboratory Berlin in January.

We also created two new pieces, the audio piece Someone to Watch over You in Mannheim as part of X-Wohnungen and the lecture performance Grand Hotel in Tallinn for the Nu Festival.

As well as the solo show in Wedding, we are looking forward immensely to working for the first time with Stuk in Leuven and the 2012 edition of the Artefact Festival on a new GPS-enabled work Crossing Paths.

To all of you who came along, made our work possible or send us kind thoughts when you read our newsletter, we wish a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

We hope to see you somewhere in 2012
